iPad Care and Safety

iPads should remain with the student they are assigned to in order to engage in remote learning. If there is a change in the student's residence during remote learning the iPad should remain with the student, and should be used primarily inside the residence to prevent unnecessary damage.

Damaged iPads are protected by AppleCare. The DOE will work with families to get broken devices repaired using this coverage. For AppleCare support, please file a Technical Support Ticket or call 718-935-5100.

Families will not be held accountable for accidental damage through normal use, but please exercise caution and common sense to protect your iPad.

iPads must be installed in the case provided. You should be using your iPad primarily indoors for schoolwork and it must be secured in the case when you travel with the device.

Getting Started with Your iPad

If you have received your iPad, and need help getting it set up, see the Getting Started with Your iPad page.

Support for the iPads is available through our Technical Support Ticket or call the Help desk at 718-935-5100

iPad Returns

Students who will attend a DOE school next year may keep their DOE iPad over the summer. In the fall, returning students will be asked to bring the DOE device to the school they are attending. This includes students transitioning to new DOE schools, such as middle or high schools or students transferring to a new DOE school.

Students who are graduating or not returning to a DOE school in the fall will need to return their centrally distributed iPads. If any family needs to return an iPad, they should contact their child’s school, fill out a Technical Support for Families form, or call 718 - 935-5100.

Dear Families,

Starting October 12, 2021, your child will be required to sign into their DOE Chromebook with their DOE username and password. (This is their ‘@nycstudent.netOpens in a new browser tab account’.)

This change allows the DOE to add critical content filtering that will protect your child and the DOE community from unsafe internet content. Once your child has signed into their DOE
Chromebook with their DOE account, they will be able to access their school account from that device.

DOE Student Accounts

DOE Student Accounts

To keep students connected and meeting academic requirements when learning remotely, the DOE has created student accounts for every single New York City public school student, including 3K and Pre-K students.

The account gives your student access to Google Classroom and Microsoft Office 365, through the Remote Learning Portal(Open external link).

Find Your Student Account ID and Password

To retrieve your account ID and password:

  1. Go to Student Account Self Service(Open external link)
  2. Enter your 9-digit Student ID (OSIS) number. (You can find your Student ID number on a report card, your student ID card, or in your NYCSA account.)
  3. Enter your birthday.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. If the information you enter matches your student record, your username will be displayed.
  6. Your student ID is your username followed by @nycstudents.net. For example, if your username is JaneD, your student account ID is JaneD@nycstudents.net.
  7. If you haven't already set up a password, you will be asked to set one up.
  8. Pick a password that only you will know.
  9. Re-enter your password.
  10. Click Update Password.

Access the Remote Learning Portal

In order to support students with remote learning, the DOE has made available a remote learning portal for all DOE students. The remote learning portal provides quick links to online learning tools they will need, including Google Classroom and Microsoft Office. For students at schools that use Clever, a link to Clever will appear in the portal.

If you are unable to access your child’s student account, contact your child's school at 917 640-1744. They can provide you with your student's account ID and password.

The DOE made it easier to  sign up for a NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). Setting up a basic account will allow you to get emergency notifications from the DOE.

You can create a basic account online from any computer, phone, or tablet. All you need to do is:

·        Go to https://mystudent.nyc/saa/signup

·        Set up the account by:

o   Entering  your name and email address,

o   creating a password, and

o   answering a few brief security questions so you can reset the password if you forget it.

After you create your account, you will need to verify your identity and your relationship to that student.  Once you do that you will be able to see your child’s grades, test scores, and attendance.
