WHAT ARE WE LEARNING THIS MONTH?

Reading: 

Becoming Experts - We are learning all about nonfiction!  We are focusing on reading to learn about the world, as well as learning all about the features that make nonfiction unique! (photos, captions, glossary, fact boxes, diagrams...)

Writing:

Writing nonfiction expert projects  - Writing projects about topics each student believes to be a bit of an expert on.  They will include all the features nonfiction books should have- contents, captions, diagrams, etc! 

Phonics:

Growing Into 2nd Grade Phonics: review digraphs and blends, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, using capitals, punctuation, and spelling words. We are also focusing on grammar, studying nouns, verbs, adjectives, and homophones/homographs!

Social Studies:

New York City Over Time? We will be traveling back to the 1600s to when the Lenape Native Americans lived here on Manahatta.  We will follow history and its timeline to end up here in the modern-day.  We will be focusing on how New Amsterdam became New York.  How the city and its buildings grew over time

Math:

Topic 4  - review, adding double-digit numbers with regrouping. 

Science:

Animal and Plant relationships: continue to study habitats for both plants and animals.  Adaptations of plants and animals. How the parts of a plant work together to create a system.
