Inside Broadway Brings Broadway to PS 304X!
Inside Broadway's mission is to acquaint young people in our city with the benefits and enjoyment of live theater. Every kid at a New York City public school should get the chance to see a Broadway production because the city is the world's theater capital. Students will get a taste of what it's like to be the center of attention and enjoy the applause. Our kids are the stars of their very own show at Inside Broadway's flagship residency. Students in this program learn all the necessary elements of theatre to build their own musicals. These one-of-a-kind classes combine acting, voice, dancing, and other theatrical skills while being led by a theatre expert who helps our students discover their inner stars. We draw the curtain and turn on the lights!
Marquis Studio's In School Residency Programs
All residencies integrate the arts with instruction in academic subjects according to the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Each residency is led by a professional Teaching Artist who partners with classroom teachers and after-school coordinators to support curriculum objectives and provide artistically enriching experiences to students.
- Culturally Responsive Education - Marquis residencies use the arts to celebrate the rich diversity found in our world, whether it’s by introducing students to artforms from around the globe or focusing on the cultural diversity present in our own communities. We employ a student-led approach that creates opportunities for students to reflect on and share their own experiences, building deeper, authentic connections to the material they study.
- Arts Pedagogy - Marquis programs expose students to a range of innovative hands-on artmaking experiences, from Circus Arts to Filmmaking to Taiko Drumming. Programs are driven by student exploration, encouraging students to experiment with different materials and processes to help them discover their own voices. All programs are led by trained Teaching Artists with extensive experience in their discipline.
- Academic Learning - We work closely with teachers to integrate arts learning with the classroom curriculum, creating new pathways for students to explore academic subjects. Our residencies align with standards in ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies, wile providing creative opportunities for students to engage in critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Social Emotional Learning - Our programs help students learn more about themselves, and provide a vital outlet for self-expression. Through artmaking, students tap into their emotions, developing self-awareness and building self-confidence to share their ideas. Through group discussions and collaborative work, programs encourage students to participate in the social and interactive elements of art.
